Valley Care Foundation gives close to $400,000 to local nonprofits serving older adults
August 4, 2026, Sewickley PA — The Valley Care Foundation has awarded close to $400,000 in grants to nine nonprofit organizations that enhance the lives of older adults in the greater Sewickley Valley area.
“VCF is unique in our vision, which is to have a community where our elders — our mothers, our fathers and friends — not only receive care and support, but thrive in their communities,” said Arlene Bell, Vice President/Secretary of the Valley Care Foundation. ““I’ve worked in community health programs for many years and I’ve seen the growing need to support our senior population. Where government programs end, that is where foundations pick up and address societal issues and problems.”
“We were impressed by the range of programs that are helping older adults maintain their quality of life. They address the critical needs of nutrition, access to resources, mental health, dementia, education, and social interaction,” said Richard Hogan, MD, president of the Valley Care Foundation. “Valley Care is proud to be able to support these efforts.”
In our 2025-26 fiscal year, VCF awarded funds to previous recipients, the Sewickley Valley YMCA and Federated Guardians, Beaver, PA. For the first time, grants were also awarded to these programs:
Center for Hope, Ambridge — Bridging the Gap addresses food Insecurity and social isolation by providing weekly meals and art classes for seniors to enjoy with children.
Coraopolis Community Development Corporation, Coraopolis — The Coraopolis Food Pantry delivers groceries and essential items so older adults can maintain health, independence, and a balanced diet.
Franklin Center, Aliquippa — Through coaching and referrals, a Resource Navigation Support program helps seniors obtain housing, finances, and social services.
Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center, Sewickley — Connecting older adults through film, with information sessions to encourage education and social interaction.
Samaritan Counseling Center, Sewickley — Tailored psychotherapy for adults ages 65 and older who are seeking help for mental and emotional health.
Sewickley Public Library, Sewickley — Programming for older adults through speakers, presentations, and materials, as well as outreach to senior living communities.
Sweetwater Center for the Arts, Sewickley — Arts and culinary programs for adults with dementia living in memory care settings, using adaptive tools and trained staff.
Previously, Valley Care funded and created Senior Central in partnership with The Sewickley Valley YMCA, providing in-person and online help for people in need. In 2025-26, we continued to give financial support to the YMCA’s Faith In Action and Thrive Center services. Valley Care also supported Federated Guardians, of Beaver, which manages complex guardianship arrangements for vulnerable populations.
The next round of grant awards and eligibility guidelines will be announced in early 2027 on our website, ValleyCareFoundation.org. Non-profits may apply if they serve older adults in the Sewickley Valley area. Valley Care Foundation gives preference to programs serving people age 65 and older.
